Qulaan Islands & Mangroves
The mangrove lagoons of Qulaan, south of Hamata: shallow channels, kayaks and seabirds between the sandbanks — a completely different side of the Red Sea coast.
Good for
- Mangrove lagoons unique on this coast
- Kayak through shallow channels
- Seabirds and silence
- Short drive from Hamata
Why Qulaan
Qulaan is a chain of shallow lagoons and sandbanks south of Hamata, lined with the only true mangrove stands on this stretch of coast. It is calm, quiet and very photogenic — nothing like the big beaches further north.
How it works
The drive from Hamata hotels is short; from Marsa Alam town it is about 1.5 hours. Kayaks and small boats take you through the channels; the water is shallow and warm.
What we organise
Transfer from your hotel, the boat or kayak through the lagoons and enough time for swimming off the sandbanks.
